About gist.
gist. is a public-service editorial project. We translate insurance Product Disclosure Statements into plain English so the people buying these products can actually understand what they're buying.
What we do
We take the source PDS as published by the insurer, and produce a plain-English version of every section — what's covered, what isn't, the limits, the exclusions — alongside a link to the original PDF. We embed a chatbot that answers customer questions grounded in the same structured data. We collect signals from chatbot conversations and public review sources, and we publish a regular report on the clauses customers most often ask about.
What we are not
Not a financial adviser, broker, agent, comparison service, or aggregator. We don't give personal or general advice and we don't recommend products. We don't rank insurers. We don't take affiliate commissions, referral fees, or paid placement from anyone we cover.
How we make money
We don't, yet. The longer-term plan is a B2B subscription that lets insurers see deeper analytics — longitudinal tracking of customer questions, A/B suggestions on the PDS itself, integration of the feedback loop into their content workflow. Insurers never pay for exclusivity, ranking position, or to suppress public analysis. Any commercial engagement is disclosed on the relevant insurer's page and on our disclaimer page.
How you can help
Spotted a translation that doesn't match the original PDS? Tell us. Work at an insurer and want to talk about how the public summary of your PDS reads? Also tell us. We default to correcting first and discussing second.
